I visited the Terrapin Brewery in Athens, GA this weekend and had a blast. Beer can’t be sold legally at a brewery, so they sell you a glass for $10 with tickets that you use for pours. It’s a dang good deal! I tried Side Project, Hopsecutioner, Golden Ale, Monk’s Revenge, and ended with the Easy Rider. I’d say the favorite amongst my peeps was the Monk’s Revenge - at 9.8% ABV it is a combination of a Belgian Style Tripel and a new age American Double IPA. Holy Turtle, it hit the spot.

Who’s going to a cookout this Memorial Day weekend? I am! Who feels obligated to take a side? I do! Who thinks fruit salad sounds exciting? …Neither did my husband. But you might change your attitude if i told you this was Fruit Salad with Dark Rum and Honey.
Simply whisk together 3 tbsp dark rum, 3 tbsp honey, 1 tsp Angostura bitters (if you have it on hand), and add it to a bowl of fruit of your choice. Chill for 3 hours …you and the fruit. Enjoy your long weekend everyone!

Unfortunately for me Lush Husband is abstaining from alcohol for Lent (and soda, what a bummer). I’ve really missed my drinking buddy BUT he has been infusing some fantastic creations in preparation for his reunion with booze. This includes a jalapeño tequila, sour cherry mezcal, and a Blackberry Mezcal. The smokiness of the mezcal is going to pair nicely with the sweet and tarty berry. You know what family is going to be drunk after church this Easter? This one!

THE LUSH LADY IS ONE YEAR OLD!
And what better way to celebrate than at a highly regarded local Atlanta establishment with a kick ass cocktail menu that could compete against any major city - I’m talking about H Harpers Station. Any celebration calls for champagne, so shown here is The Little Prince - Don Diego Blanco, Yellow Chartreuse, Herbsaint and Gruet Rose Sparkling. I also had to celebrate with some bourbon (their staple Bufala Negra cocktail), some tequila (please try the Calexico), and some scotch (the Alchemist). You just can’t go wrong at their bar. The food was equally as divine.

Me and some friends tried out The Chocolate Bar in Decatur, GA on Saturday. The concept is, you guessed it, chocolate desserts and dessert martini’s and cocktails. Shown here is their signature martini, The Chocolate Bar, with vodka, bailey’s irish cream, and 75% tanzanian couverture (hard chocolate coating the base). It was a perfectly made creamy concoction with delicious glassy ice shards floating on the top. Curious, I tasted the other drinks at the table, and they all tasted fairly similar. There’s no adventurous flavors or real risks taken here, but it will indeed satisfy your sweet tooth. We also sampled an assortment of their truffles and an ancho chili chocolate cupcake. Overall, I have to say, I enjoyed their non-chocolate offerings so much more. The curry popcorn was light with just the right amount of flavor, and their ginger lemon martini rocked my socks off. Next time I’m going to try their chocolate wings!
