“Mr. Castevet came in, holding in both hands a small tray on which four cocktail glasses ran over with clear pink liquid. “Mr. Woodhouse? A Vodka Blush. Have you ever tasted one? They’re very popular in Australia,” Mr. Castevet said. He took the final glass and raised it to Rosemary and Guy. “To our guests,” he said. “Welcome to our home.”- Rosemary’s Baby, Ira Levin
I just finished reading this fabulously creepy book in which a couple classy cocktails are featured. The Vodka Blush being one. The recipe is simple. Try a batch for yourself! I promise you won’t have any devil babies.
Vodka Blush+ 2 1/2 oz vodka+ 3/4 oz fresh squeezed lime juice+ Splash of grenadine (I made my own)Combine in a cocktail shaker, shake and strain.

I’m very much looking forward to the release of this book on November 1. Until then, I am going to take on the small project of making the pear and apple bitter recipes the author so generously shared with Liquor.com. I just placed my order for the more exotic spices at Dandelion Botanical Company, as recommended. It should be ready in a couple weeks!

"In the past few decades, many of us have become sophisticated about food, but we have not given the same attention to what we drink. InHow to Drink, Victoria Moore aims to redress the balance, by showing how to drink well throughout the seasons and at all times of day.
Here are recipes for mint juleps in the spring, sloe gin in the autumn, hot buttered rum in the winter, and year-round showstoppers including the world’s best gin and tonic. Moore is also an impassioned advocate of unfairly maligned drinks such as sherry, Campari and saki, and gives fascinating historical background on different spirits as well as invaluable advice on creating your home bar.”

If you love wine, and design, this book is for you.
I first saw Wine Labels On Bottle Design at this years AIGA 50 Books 50 Covers exhibit. It stood out from the rest of the bunch because it’s front and back covers are made of actual cork. (And I’m sorry but the rest of the collection was not impressive). The interior showcases perfect photographs of beautifully labeled bottles. Available at Amazon.
