Homemade apple cider (recipe here - basically boil/simmer apples for 3 hours) with Four Roses Bourbon and a touch of Angostura bitters. You can also mix brandy, gin or Laird’s Applejack with the apple cider, with a 1 to 3 ratio in favor of the cider, you really can’t lose.

This frothy beverage is a Black Velvet, with a layer of Guiness floating thickly on top of Strongbow Cider. The appley cider cuts through the bitterness of the dark brew perfectly.

If you like ciders, you have to try this one - Crispin Honey Crisp Hard Apple Cider. It makes my mouth water just thinking about how good it was. This is considered a “cloudy” cider because it is made with unfiltered apple wine. Read more about it at the Crispin website.

I was definitely in need of some Sweet Revenge today. Located on Carmine Street in the West Village, Sweet Revenge pairs their creative cupcakes with imported wines and beers resulting in the ultimate dessert menu. I enjoyed the house Sweet Revenge cupcake (peanut butter cake with a ganache center and peanut butter fudge frosting) and paired it with the Kopparberg Pear Cider of Sweden. Not the usual pairing, but the cider is so yummy I had to veer from the suggestion. My husband Santi had the pistacho-centric Casablanca cupcake with the Früli Strawberry White from Belgium. Revenge is sweet indeed! (Sorry I had to).
Price: $30 for 2
