Me and some friends tried out The Chocolate Bar in Decatur, GA on Saturday. The concept is, you guessed it, chocolate desserts and dessert martini’s and cocktails. Shown here is their signature martini, The Chocolate Bar, with vodka, bailey’s irish cream, and 75% tanzanian couverture (hard chocolate coating the base). It was a perfectly made creamy concoction with delicious glassy ice shards floating on the top. Curious, I tasted the other drinks at the table, and they all tasted fairly similar. There’s no adventurous flavors or real risks taken here, but it will indeed satisfy your sweet tooth. We also sampled an assortment of their truffles and an ancho chili chocolate cupcake. Overall, I have to say, I enjoyed their non-chocolate offerings so much more. The curry popcorn was light with just the right amount of flavor, and their ginger lemon martini rocked my socks off. Next time I’m going to try their chocolate wings!

Old Rasputin Imperial Stout by North Coast Brewing, served up at Leon’s Full Service in Decatur. I never thought I’d be a dark beer kind of girl, but I’ve had some fine stouts lately. At 9% ABV with enough bold flavor to knock your socks off, one good pour will be enough to make you warm and fuzzy.

The Wasp at Leon’s Full Service: Redemption rye, georgia peach honey, lemon, salt and pepper. Yes, you read that right, salt and pepper. And it had every right being there. This is one of the restaurants Summer Cocktails that will be disappearing very soon, so if you are in Atlanta, stop looking at my pretty pictures and go get you one!

This is the Green Light from Leon’s Full Service. Possibly the most interesting drink I’ve had to date. The ingredients include Berkshire Mountain Ethereal Gin, lemon, fresh celery juiced on site, and roasted peanut orgeat (an oil water emulsion of peanut oils). The result is a hybrid of citrusy-veggie-nutty goodness that is truly hard to put into words, and so, so good.

What you are looking at is the stellar bar at Leon’s Full Service in Decatur, GA. Quite possibly my ultimate favorite bar in the South. Don’t get me wrong, the food is equally as amazing (please try the burger and fries with bacon mayo), but I try to stick to my drinkin’ theme and don’t focus too much on that here. In the next few days I’m going to show you some of the beers and cocktails I enjoyed, with such ingredients as celery juice, roasted peanut orgeat, and salt and pepper. So please check back!

Last but not least from my series on the Iberian Pig in Decatur, GA - a Gin Gin Mule: gin, ginger beer, muddled mint, and lime. A nice mix of sweet and spicy and refreshing on a hot day in the South.

This is an “ARC” from the Iberian Pig in Decatur, GA. ARC stands for A Real Cosmo. Vodka, cointreau, cranberry, & lime. No sugary mixers. Straight forward and strong the way a drink should be. The bartender is shown adding a flame to citrus peel to finish it off the flavors.
